Lady of the Sound
This fascinating documentary looks at the long history of the Wianno Senior, a 25-foot racing sloop that for almost a century has been built at Crosby Yacht on Cape Cod.
Designed in 1913, the Senior fleet was built to the same specifications to create a level aquatic playing field, ensuring the skill of the sailor determined the winner.
More than 90-years later this single class fleet continues to race in the choppy waters of Nantucket Sound.
Lady of the Sound uses historical photographs and film as well as interviews with the men who spent their lives building them to tell the tale of this storied vessel. Sailed by generations of Cape Codders the Senior evokes memories of bygone years – and continues to stir the passion of those who sail her today. President John F. Kennedy was said never to be happier than when at the helm of his Senior, the Victura, and that same passion has indeed been passed to a new generation of Americans. Despite a devastating fire that decimated the fleet during the making of this documentary, the fleet continues to grow – and the rebuilding is a testament to the depth of feeling those who sail her have for this legendary boat.
